Els Quatre Gats
'Els Quatre Gats' (Four Cats en english) is a restaurant located near the Portal de l'Angel in Barcelona. The building is located in 'Casa Martí' a Josep Puig i Cadafalch's Building. The bar was opened on 12 June 1897 and it was active until 1903. it was a meeting place for painters, writers and cultured people of catalan Modernism (Art Nouveau).
It was born on the hand of Pere Romeu who had worked in the bohemian cabaret in Paris, Le Chat Noir. He decided that the city of Barcelona had to create a gathering area for anyone associated with the avant-garde movement and the world of culture. Famous Catalans have taken a coffee here, including Rusiñol Santiago, Luis Millet, Ramon Casas, Isaac Albéniz or Pablo Picasso.
Currently works as a restaurant and is interesting to visit it because of the furniture and the decoration has been preserved since the early twentieth century.
